Abstract

The paper investigates the effectiveness of optimal placement of monitors in the assessment of financial losses due to voltage sags. Optimal sag monitoring schemes and typical power quality monitoring sites are used to perform a risk-based assessment of financial losses. The influence of the number and location of monitors on the outcome of a financial-loss analysis in voltage sag studies is also looked into. The results of the analysis are illustrated using a 295-bus generic distribution network (GDN) and considering a range of sensitive customers.
